586,698. Screw-and-nut mechanism. TURTLE, R. C., LITTLE, T. H., and ARENS CONTROLS, Ltd. Nov. 1, 1944, No. 21358. [Class 80 (iii)] Screw-and-nut mechanism for actuating a flexible cable or rigid rod comprises a screw 2 mounted in a casing 1 and having a nut 4. The latter has a. laterally projecting part 7 which passes through a slot in a guide tube 11, parallel to the screw 2, and which thus prevents rotation of the nut and forms an anchorage for the cable or other member to be moved. As shown, the latter comprises a tension cable 5 within a compression casing 6 and the part 7 is of forked shape and is clamped to the cable between parts 9, 10 thereon. Adjustable stops 12, 15, limit the sliding movement of the nut. The casing may have a transparent window 18 or an indicating finger 20 on the nut may extend outside the casing. Instead of the screw being driven directly by a handle 3, bevel or other gearing may be arranged between the handle 3 and screw 2.
