Abstract
613,328. Speed governors. THOMAS, H. E. R June 19, 1946, No. 18378. [Class 57] A member 11 has a rack 10 engaging a pinion 9 on a shaft 2 that is connected to a pinion 4 by a free-wheel 5. A drum 3 is freely mounted on the shaft 2 and carries a gear train driving an escapement, vane or like device. The drum carries a spring-pressed plunger 12 that engages a stop formed by the end of a rib 14. In this position as the member 11 is moved, it drives the escapement &c. and its movement is retarded until an adjustable arm 21 on the shaft 2 engages the curved top 18 of a pin 17 which moves the plunger 12 to free the drum and allow unrestricted movement of the member 11 during the remainder of its stroke. On the return stroke, the free-wheel 5 permits free movement and an arm 20 on the shaft 2 engages the plunger 12 and returns it to the holding position. Buffers 15, 19 are provided at each end of the rib 14.
