Abstract

566,948. Indicating - instruments. GRANT, C. R. A. March 11, 1943; Nos. 4000 and 5565. Addition to 534,662. [Classes 106 (ii) and 106 (iv)] A Bourden tube 1 or other indicating - instrument actuating means is connected by a link 2 to a quadrant 3 engaging a pinion 4 on the spindle 5 of a pointer 19. To eliminate backlash, a second identical quadrant 9 also engages the pinion 4 and is freely pivoted on the same pivot as the quadrant 3, a tension or compression spring 10 being attached to the second quadrant 9 and to the end of the Bourden tube or to a fixed point. The second quadrant 9 may be pressed by a spring 11 against a friction washer 16 fitted between the two quadrants. The link 2 may be connected to the main quadrant 3 by a pin-and-slot connection 17 and the point of attachment of the spring 10 to the second quadrant 9 may be adjustable. The link 2 may be replaced by a spring which would act on a shock-absorber and an inertia disc may be mounted on the pointer spindle 5.
