Abstract
873,546. Fishing indicators. MULCHINOCK, F. W., and WATSON, W. E. May 17, 1960 [June 5, 1959], No. 19363/59. Class 48. A bite indicator comprises two nylon tubes 3 and 4 for guiding a fishing line to rub on a roughened wheel 12 mounted on a shaft 11, supported by plates 7 and 8, and carrying a pointer 13, visible through transparent cover 2 of casing 1, such that the line may run freely through the guide tubes 3 and 4 but any linear movement thereof causes pointer movement. Tubes 3 and 4, normally coaxially aligned as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3, extend through and are fast with the wall of casing 1 and engage the limbs of a stirrup 5 by which they may be flexed. The stirrup is guided by a portion 6, stamped out from a plate 7, and a parallel plate 8 and is moved by a threaded spindle 9 and knob 10. By twisting the knob 10, the line is first threaded through the guide tubes, the latter then being flexed so as to cause the line to bear on the wheel 12 with any required degree of pressure. The indicator may be attached to a rod by wires 14 and a split tube 15 (Fig. 1). In a modified form (Fig. 6), the line guide is a metal tube 16 having a central aperture 161 in which is positioned a wheel 17. The one end 18 of tube 16 is fixed to the casing wall, whilst the opposite end 19 extends through a slot 20, the tube being urged towards the wheel 17 by a spring 21 fitted to a plate 22 fast on a threaded rod 23 meshing with a knob 24 rotatably mounted in the casing wall.
