Abstract

408,030. Liquid-fuel furnace fronts. SQUIRE, T. R., 53, Victoria Avenue, Whitley Bay, Northumberland. Oct. 17, 1932, No. 29015. [Class 51 (i).] In oil-burning apparatus in which air is led tangentially into a chamber 1 having mounted therein a shield tube 8 surrounding a burner nozzle 7 which projects through a plate 3 closing the outer end of the chamber, the shield tube is secured in spaced relation to the plate 3 so as to leave an annular space for the passage of primary air to the burner and the entire length of the shield tube is exposed to the tangentially directed incoming air so as to create a vortex about the burner nozzle. The shield tube is provided on the inside with tubular lugs 9 adapted to pass over studs 10 bolted to the plate 3 and having spacing collars 10<a>. The tube is secured on the studs by means of set screws 12. A tapered ring 5 is fixed to the inner end of the casing 1 to give a Venturi effect. At the inner end of the shield tube are formed two parallel flats 8<a> carrying insulated blocks 14 for supporting the ignition electrodes 13. Each electrode passes through a hollow screw 15 having a milled adjusting wheel 15<a> and is formed at the outer end with a cross piece 13<a> of knife edge section adapted to abut into a V-shaped recess 16<a> formed in a flat spring 16 attached to the outer face of the block 14 by a terminal screw 17.
