Abstract

400,971. Carding-engines. PLATT,. J., Byron Works, Bouverie Road, Harrow, Middlesex. Feb. 4, 1932, No. 3363. [Classes 120 (i) and 120 (iii).] A cotton-carding machine is provided with a stationary toothed surface constituted by rigid, pointed and inclined teeth or points which provide a concave carding surface in close proximity to and conforming with the toothed surface of the drum or cylinder. The teeth or points of the concave carding surface are stamped or ground to produce the concavity and the surface may be constituted by a series of toothed strips A, Figs. 1 and 4, of the type described in Specifications 207,429 and 294,920, [both in Class 120 (iii), Yarns &c.], held by clips B and mounted by securing strips C<1>, C2 on a carrier C, Fig. 3. A series of such surfaces is provided in place of the usual revolving flats, or, if desired, in addition thereto, while a surface may also be provided at H adjacent to the doffer F, Fig. 6. The concave surface may also be formed of continuously-extending circumferential strips, or of flat strips, the teeth on which are formed or ground so as gradually to decrease in length from one edge to the other so as to produce the necessary concavity.
