Abstract

248,475. Laurency, G. C. Dec. 5, 1924. Carding-engines; drawing-frames.-In an arrangement for straightening and rendering parallel the fibres taken from the doffer of a carding- engine, the fibres are seized by a leather or similar covered roller A, Fig. 1, or a roller with a channeled surface, co-operating with a casing comprising a series of flexible blades a, held up and pressed against the roller by springs e. The fibres seized and passed forward have their rear ends combed by the doffer D. As they emerge at the point n they are combed by a card covered roller B rotating more quickly than the roller A. This roller is also provided with blades a. A further leather covered roller C is provided to draw the fibres from the roller B, and the drawing operation may be repeated as often as desired. The flexible blades a, Fig. 3, are arranged helically under the rollers. Where ring doffers are employed, the blades a, which are wider than the rings, are arranged at right angles to the axis of the roller. The roller B may be provided with a brush R to remove waste and dirt when necessary. Specification 18781/00 is referred to.
