Abstract

327,103. Worsley, J. Dec. 21, 1928. Carding-engines; combing -machines; lap-forming apparatus.-In machines for treating fibrous material such as cotton where the material is delivered as a thin sheet or web, it is passed over a grid formed of cross-bars of angular form arranged so that their angular edges contact with the material. In a carding engine the grid 2, Fig. 2, is arranged between the doffing-comb b and the conductor 4. The grid is at first horizontal and then arched, and the cross bars d may be of rectangular or triangular section, and the upper angular edges form the points of contact with the material. In a combing-machine the grid takes the place of the sliver-tin and is concave in form. In a ribbon-lap machine part of the usual sheet metal grinding member is formed as the grid.
