Abstract
647,246. Carding-engines. FIRTH & SONS, Ltd., R., and RADCLIFFE, J. W. Aug. 22, 1946, No. 25005. [Class 120(i)] A textile carding machine, preferably for use in the production of woollen yarns, is provided with a series of lickers-in and cooperating top and bottom workers having their teeth inclined in the directions of rotation, so that it is impossible for any. imperfectly-opened material to pass to the first swift of the machine. Material fed to the first licker-in c is carried round to the first top worker g, from which properly opened material passes to the second lickerin d, worker i and third licker-in e. Insufficiently opened material on the third licker-in e is stripped off by bottom worker j and carried back to the second licker-in d. If necessary it is carried to the first lickerin c by bottom worker h. The first licker-in c is preferably clothed with Garnett wire. The top and bottom workers may be rotated in opposite directions to those shown in the drawing. Specifications 2728/02, [Class 120], and 480,635 are referred to.
