Abstract

884,245. Carding-engines. STREIFF, F. July 20, 1960, No. 25288/60. Class 120(1) In a carding machine in which the clothing of the main cylinder and or the doffer is stripped pneumatically and the strippings are passed back for recarding, the stripped material is delivered by compressed air to the region in which the uncarded fibre fringe is presented to the licker-in. Stripping of the main cylinder 11 is effected by a nozzle 20 connected to a blower 23 that blows the stripped material through a duct 10 to a mouthpiece 24 let into the taker-in cover 8. Compressed air is able to escape through perforations 25 into a filter box 26. Long fibres are stated to be retained by the fibre fringe fed to the taker-in 4 and by the taker-in pins, whereas short fibres and impurities are blown on to mote-knives 7 and grid 18. The nozzle 20 is traversed across the cylinder 11 slowly in operative direction by an endless chain driven from the feed roller through a free wheel clutch that allows a rapid return traverse movement under the influence of a weight and cord.
