Abstract

736,154. Cleaning arrangements in carding- engines. WRIGHT, A. W. Oct. 16, 1953 (Oct. 17, 1952], No. 26045/52. Class 120(3). Dust, fly, and loose fibres within a carding- engine are removed by suction through ducting mounted adjacent the feed and delivery ends of the main cylinder to a rotary filter cylinder from which it is stripped by a roller to fall into a collector or waste box or to be fed back to the machine. In the revolving flat cotton carder shown, a ducting A, mounted between taker-in 1 and flats 4 where the latter pass over roller 5, is formed with a V-shaped chute having a slot through which dust, &c. is withdrawn, Fig. 6 (not shown) : a ducting B for removing dust &c. from the main cylinder 2 is arranged between and replaces some of grid bars 8, and also has an adjustable slot, Fig. 5 (not shown) : a ducting C has a slot on its underside for removal of dust &c. from the doffer 3. All ductings communicate through trunking D<SP>1</SP> with a fan chamber D in which fan blades D<SP>2</SP> are rotated by belts or chains from pulleys d2 and d<SP>3</SP> to deliver the waste material to a rotary perforated drum filter E a cylinder El of which is driven by chains e, e<SP>3</SP>, through sprockets e<SP>1</SP>, e<SP>2</SP>, e<SP>4</SP>, from a roller 5. A stripping roller E<SP>2</SP>, covered with leather and rubber flaps or wipers and driven from the card flaps through a belt e<SP>5</SP>, removes the dust and loose fibres which fall or are blown by an air stream Y into a collector or into trunking E<SP>2</SP> by which it is delivered onto the lap passing from roll 6 to taker-in 1 : a plate E4 blanks off the perforations in the cylinder E<SP>1</SP> in the stripping area.
