Abstract

757,706. Carding - engines. HOPKINSON, H. July 7, 1954 [April 7, 1953], No. 9371/53. Class 120 (1). A carding-engine constructed for operation in the woollen system of yarn production comprises a single swift with associated workers, strippers, and other rollers coacting with the swift over the major portion of its periphery, the arrangement being such that material fed to the machine at one side is carried around the swift and delivered therefrom at the same side. In the operation of the scribbler shown in Fig. 1, fibrous material is delivered by a scale pan 5 to a feed belt 3 and then conveyed by rollers 7 to tummer rollers 9 provided with divider rollers 11, 13, 15, the last roller 9 coacting with the swift 1 and angle worker 17 : around the swift are strippers 19 and workers 21, a fancy 23 and fly stripper 25, and doffer 27 from which a treated web of fibre is stripped by a fly comb 29, to be delivered by a Scotch feed, represented at 31, to a carding machine. In the machine shown in Fig. 2, fibrous material, e.g. a web as supplied from the scribbler of Fig. 1, is fed by a.belt 43 to feed rollers 45, and a licker-in 47 coacting with the swift 41 and an angle worker 49: around the swift are strippers 51 and workers 53, a fancy 58 and fly stripper 55, and a doffer 57 from which the carded web is removed by a stripper 59 and passed to a condenser. One or both machines may be arranged so that feeding occurs at the higher level and the material is passed around the swift in the opposite direction.
