Abstract
764,966. Carding-engines; burr-removing apparatus. PRESTON STREET COMBING CO., Ltd. April 5, 1955 [April 7, 1954], No. 10155/54. Class 120 (1). Preliminary to entering the main carding elements of a wool (preferably worsted) carding machine, a web of fibres is divided and one part subjected to a burr-removing process whereafter the parts are re-united on the same breast, licker-in or like roller from which the division originally took place. As applied to a French-type carding-engine, a divider 11 is mounted above a breast 10 to remove part of the fibre web from the latter for transfer by a brush-covered stripper 16 to a Morel roller 18 that is acted upon by a burr beater 19. The burrs are collected in a receptacle 22. A brush-covered angle stripper 20 transfers the web back to the breast 10 to intermingle with other fibres on the breast before being carried forward to another burr-removing device. In a Yorkshire-type carding- engine, the apparatus may be arranged above the third licker-in.
