Abstract
507,391. Carding-engines. SPINNFASER AKT.GES. Sept. 5,1938, No. 25943. Convention date, Feb. 14. [Class 120 (i)] In the manufacture of a sliver of cellulose wool capable of being drawn and of being spun directly without a subsequent combing process, the material is first subjected to a carding by working and clearing rollers and then to a carding by revolving flats as described in Specification 503,997, the chain of flats consisting of flats having ordinary card clothing alternating with flats having teeth directed vertically or approximately vertically to the flat surface so as to produce a smoothing, stroking or straightening action, the distance between two successive flats of normal clothing being adjusted to the maximum fibre length. The process may be carried out in an ordinary roller card followed by a revolving flat card having the particular clothing described, or preferably in a composite machine comprising a feed lattice 1, fluted rollers 2, a taker-in 4, swift 5, worker 7, stripper 8, or a number of such 'workers and strippers, and a chain of revolving flats 6. The flats 9a are provided with ordinary card clothing and the flats 9b with teeth substantially vertical to the flat. The carded web is removed from the doffer 10 by a stripping- comb 11 and passed to the usual calendering apparatus 12. No fancy roller is provided but clearing rollers 13 are provided on the under side of the swift 5 as shown.
