Classes 120(1) and 120(2) The doffer comb of a carding-engine is arranged to act in the zone of the lowermost position of the gererating line of the doffer do that the detached web has a downwardly directed trajectory and may be streched by its own weight: such latter action may be adjusted by modifying the distance of a pair of guide cylinders, along the trajectory of the web. The comb may be so arranged that, at the end of its detaching movement, its free end travels away from the tip of the card clothing on the doffer, thereby stretching a portion of the web between the detachment line from the clothing and the engaging line with the comb. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, a lap is conveyed by a belt 2 to feed rollers 3, thence to a main cylinder 1 co-operating with workers 4 to form a web which is lifted by a fancy 5 for collection by a doffer 6 from which the web is detached by a comb 7 and fed by rollers 8b through dividing apparatus 8: slubbings 9 produced by rubbing leathers 8c (four or eight pairs) pass to spinning frames 10a, 10b, and 11. In the frame 11, slubbings are united between two cylinders 14 and 15 carried by a structure 16 which is oscillated around a pivot 17 by means of cams 20, rockers 21 and rods 22, and then passed between rollers 18 and 19 to be fed to spinning members 12 after a free drop 9a along which spinning is effected.
