Abstract

794,445. Carding machines; fibre drawing arrangements; coilers. ALTENBURGER, W. Sept. 2, 1955, No. 25252/55. Classes 120(1), 120(2), and 120(3) A carding machine provided with a coiler mechanism and a drawing device for operating upon slivers during their passage between the doffer and the coiler mechanism has thickness detecting means associated with the drives to the drawing device and coiler mechanism to adjust the degree of fibre drawing according to variations in sliver cross-section. The web leaving the doffer is condensed at a funnel and passes between detector rollers 2, 3 and drawing rollers 28 to the delivery rollers 34 of the coiler mechanism. The roller 3, which rides in a groove in roller 4; is free to oscillate under variations in sliver thickness. Movements of the roller 3, through a linkage 9, 11, 15 'cause corresponding movements of a belt 18 across cone pulleys 19; 20 to vary the speed of rollers 28 and the coiler mechanism.
