1,098,949. Cleaning carding-engines. LUWA A.G. Aug. 10, 1966 No. 35796/66. Heading D1F. In a cotton carding-engine, pneumatic cleaning apparatus comprises suction heads with spaced orifices therein extending transversely of the taker-in and doffer. The heads are constructed as chests which, with parts of the machine, define suction ducts which guide air flowing into the chests transversely to the axis of the main carding cylinder past other parts of the machine which require to be cleaned. As shown in Fig. 1, a suction chest 5 mounted between taker-in 1 and deflecting roll 6 has faces 15, 16, which, with cover plates 4 and 3, form tapering suction ducts 8 and 7. Air currents, with entrained dust and fibre particles released between feed roller 12 and plate 3 and by main cylinder 2 and by the flats 14, pass through the ducts and orifices 9 to exhaust. As shown in Fig. 3, a suction chest 19 has faces 35, 34, which cooperate with cover plate 23 of the doffer 21 and a plate 32 to form a suction duct 22 and a space 31 through which air currents, with entrained dust and fibre particles, flow and pass through orifices 29, 30, to exhaust without damaging the carded web 24 or interfering with the action of the doffer comb 25.
