Abstract
1,126,254. Cleaning carding-engines. LUWA A.G. 13 Sept., 1966 [10 Dec., 1965], No. 40848/66. Heading D1F. In a cotton carding-engine, impurities in the form of short fibres, husk fragments and nips are pneumatically removed from beneath the feed roller 10, taker-in 11, main carding cylinder 12 and doffer 13, by an air flow directed from a blast box 27 through an opening 26, along the continuous surface of a guide plate extending the full width of the machine and comprising sections 25, 24 (which may be the supporting floor for the machine) 28, and a downwardly directed section which, together with a lead-in plate 34, forms a funnel or collecting device 29 for the impurities, thence to a suction outlet 35. An air duct, for the main flow and secondary currents created by the rotating cylinders, is defined by these sections, the cylinders themselves, the grid 22 with a perforated section 23 and side and end covers such as 31, 32. The section 28 may comprise separate sections set at an angle to each other in order to ensure that the duct cross-section between section 28 and the grid 22 is constant.
