Abstract

1384246 Carding surfaces PLATT INTERNATIONAL Ltd 24 April 1972 [27 April 1971] 11642/71 Heading DIN In a carding machine the main cylinder 10 cooperates with a fixed rigid plate 15 provided with needles 17 passing through and extending from said plate. The needles 17 have a circular section root and a tapered oval or circular section tip with an arcuately ground end 40. If oval the major axis lies in a plane perpendicular to the main cylinder axis 11. The needles are in axially aligned rows, alternate rows being staggered. Suitable needle densities lengths and inclinations are given. The plate 14 may be made up of elements 15 releasably connected together. Web 23 is fed to the main cylinder by a feed roll 20 and plate 19 and a taker-in 21. Fibres are then doffed by doffer 22. A waste extractor e.g. as described in Specification 1384247 may be provided between taker in 21 and the plate 14.
