Abstract

381,264. Vapour burners. TARRANT, F. L., Ashdene, Cadnam, Hampshire. July 24, 1931, No. 21152. [Class 75 (i).] A n incandescent vapour burner comprises a wick tube 4 which is secured at its lower end to a non- conducting sleeve 1 and at its upper end carries a copper tube 9 on which a mantle is carried by a support 11 and fork 12. The sleeve 1 screws at its upper end into the fuel container 2 and supports a casing 3 which is formed at the top as a gallery for the glass or other chimney 19. The wick 15 consists of folded cotton strands bound together and fitted with a gauze cap 16. The burner is heated initially by a lighted torch inserted through an aperture 21 in the casing 3. Vapour is thereby generated in the space 17 between the top of the tube 4 and the wick. On opening a needle valve 7 in the top of the tube 4 the vapour issues through a nipple 6 into a venacontracta tube 14 arranged in the tube 9 and after being mixed with air entering through apertures 13 is burnt at a gauze 10 below the mantle. Vaporization of the fuel in the space 17 is subsequently maintained by the heat transmitted by the tube 9.
