[Classes 75 (i) and 75 (ii).] An illuminating or heating lamp in which a bulbous flame is obtained by the use of a lamp glass or chimney n having an internal heatproof tube o is fitted with a wick burner having means for dividing the air supplied externally to the flame into three currents, one current being directed on to the wick by the inturned upper edge of a sleeve l, a second current passing through perforations l<2> in the sleeve l and being directed on to the developing flame by a flat cone m<2> on an outer sleeve m, and the third current passing through perforations m<1> in the sleeve m and passing to the flame through the passage formed between the sleeve m and chimney n. All the air for combustion enters through perforations k<3> in the burner body k<2>, the internal air supply to the flame passing through apertures a<1> to the inner wick tube a which is fitted with vertical partitions f, g. A flame spreader at the top of the wick tube a comprises a perforated body portion h, an inner cone h<1>, an upper plate i, and a securing screw k. The plate i and cone h<1> may be perforated or the plate i may be perforated and the screw k may be formed with slots k<1>. The outer wick tube l<2> may have a removable upper portion i<3>. The lower portion of the sleeve l is formed with a groove a<2> to form a seating for the sleeve m and to support the lamp chimney n. A ring p having a serrated edge may be provided on the sleeve l to stabilise the flame. The tube o may be of metal, silica, or porcelain and has an inturned bottom edge o<1>.
