Abstract

232,315. Edwards, H. C. S. P. Jan. 14, 1924. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Carburetted-air lamps. - The chimney-holder of a carburetted-air lamp rests on or is close to the roof of the carburetting- chamber 1 and is provided with a sleeve 9 slidably mounted on the burner tube 4 between it and a tubular part 12 fixed on the tubes, the burner tube being of good heat-conducting material. Apertures in the sleeve 9 enable the burner to be lit when the holder is raised. A fixed tube 5 and the part 12 are provided with corresponding apertures and the lower contracted part of the tube 5 and the tube 4 are similarly provided with apertures 17, 18 so that the air supply to the carburetting-chamber and the mixture therefrom are simultaneously regulated by rotatting the tube 4 and the part 12 by means of a handle 15. Additional apertures 20, in the tube 4 and in a sleeve 21 attached to the tube 5 permit a regulated supply of air to pass direct from an annular space 23 between the tubes 4. 5 to the tube 4. An annular diaphragm 10 is arranged in the chamber 1 above the vertically perforated absorbent body 2 and the chamber may be lagged with asbestos &c. A device with vanes and a spiral spring may be arranged one above the other in the burner tube 4. The mantle is supported from a chimney gallery on the burner tube.
