Abstract

474,127. Wick burners. LAMPENUND METALLWARENFABRIKEN R. DITMAR GEB. BRUNNER AKT.-GES. Feb. 23,1937, No. 5396. Convention date, Feb. 28, 1936. [Class 75 (i)] An incandescent wick burner comprises a perforated gallery 4 supporting a perforated cone 11 having a vertical extension 10 carrying an integral partition wall 12 formed by a perforated horizontal portion, a perforated conical portion 18, and an apertured horizontal shoulder 14 which forms a height-stop for the wick 5 and supports a perforated burner cap 13 having a depending sleeve 30. A perforated cone 21 secured by a bayonet joint 20 to the gallery 4 makes contact with the vertical extension 10 and has its upper portion formed as a hood 28 having an inturned rim 29. The incandescent mantle is carried by a cone 23 having an inturned perforated rim 25 and fitting over an annular member 21<1> carried by the cone 21. The cone 21 also supports a gallery 22 for the glass chimney 22<1>. When the burner is ignited the vapour generated at the lateral surfaces of the wick passes through the perforations 17, 31 in the wall 12 and mixes with primary air supplied through perforations in the wall 12 and secondary air supplied through the hood 28, cone 23, and cap 13 to produce a non-luminous flame which heats the mantle to incandescence. A restriction b in the passage between the hood 28 and cone 23 prevents an excessive speed of air flow. All the parts in contact with the burner flame are at a distance from the wick tubes 6, 7 so that the transfer of heat to the fuel container is prevented. The hood 28 may be secured to the partition wall 12 instead of being carried by the cone 21.
