Abstract

479,849. Wick burners. BLADON & SON, Ltd., T. E., and NEALE, G. R. Aug. 11, 1936, No. 22064. [Class 75 (i)] In burners such as described in Specification 330,800, [Class 75 (i)], comprising a porcelain or similar burner tube detachably mounted relatively to the wick tube, hot gases are prevented from coming into contact with the sides of the upper part of the wick tube. The burners are suitable for use in a heating lamp of the safety type such as described in Specification 273,980, [Class 75 (i)]. Fig. 5 shows one form of burner comprising a porcelain burner tube 15 fitting closely over the wick tube 14. The tube 15 is mounted in a cylindrical sheet metal support 18 slidably engaging an extension 17 of the housing 13 of the wickoperating mechanism. Fig. 6 shows another form in which the usual annular space between the wick tube and burner tube is filled with nonconducting refractory material such as fireclay or asbestoscoated twine. In other forms the burner tube is provided with an inwardly projecting flange engaging the top of the wick tube or the top of the wick tube is provided with an outwardly projecting flange engaging the burner tube. Fig. 9 shows another form in which burner tube is made such an internal diameter as to act as the upper end of the wick tube.
