[Class 75 (i)] A spirit stove comprises a cartridge with an outer metal casing 1, an inner casing 3 of insulating material other than glass, and a filling 7 saturated with spirit, a ring of holes 6 being provided just below the upper edge of the casing for the passage of spirit vapour for combustion. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the inner casing, which reaches to the top of the outer casing, is provided with holes 5 opposite which depressions in the outer casing are formed. These depressions are pierced to form the holes 6 when the cartridge is to be used. An insulating plate 8 below the top 4 of the cartridge compresses the filling 7 and forms a vapour chamber above the filling. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, a detachable cover 12 is threaded on to the casing, and is formed with holes 13 corresponding to the depressions for the holes 6. The wick 7 is wound around a hollow spindle 15, and rests on a disc 14 attached to the latter. A disc 17 rests on the spindle 15, and has a central pin 18 extending into the hollow spindle 15, to conduct heat to the inside of the wick 7. Perforations 20 in the lower part of the spindle 15 enable the circulation of air. When in use, the cartridge is supported by a casing 11. In another modification holes are provided in the outer casing just below its top edge and above the top edge of the inner casing, on which rests a wire gauze and a metallic cross-shaped member which conducts heat from the top of the casing to the filling. The top of the outer casing has an opening with a detachable cover for re-filling purposes. A ring lined with asbestos is slidably mounted on the outer casing to close the burner holes when desired.
