Abstract
162,254. Lambercier et Cie, J. April 23, 1920, [Convention date]. Vaporizing-apparatus; mantle supports.-In. an incandescent vapour lamp, the vaporizer is arranged below the level of the flame and the vapour passes through superheating tubes extending above the fuel reservoir, which is not under pressure. The vaporizer is heated partly by conduction from the burner-head through the mixing- tube and partly by conducticn from the vapour superheating tubes. As shown in Fig. 1, the fuel oil passes from an annular reservoir 1 through a pipe 2 to a tubular non-conducting vaporizer 3 at the bottom of a mixing-tube 12 which supports the mantle 5 by means of radial metal arms 11, a metal rod 8 and a nickel rod 6. The vapour produced in the vaporizer 3 is conducted through a. superheating tube 18, 19 passing above the mantle to a jet 14, and is mixed with air in the tube 12. The vaporizer 3, which is provided with a removable stopper to facilitate cleaning, is heated at starting by alcohol burnt in a dish 20. The rod 8 may be supported on the tube 12 by a grating 9 instead of the radial strips 11. In modifications, the superheating tubes are arranged adjacent to one another either near or within the flame, and the mantle support is external to the flame. In another modification the oil reservoir is arranged above the flame. When burning very volatile fuels the superheating tubes need not extend as high as the mantle, and are connected straight across the burner head or surround the burner head to form a superheating chamber.
