Abstract

409,219. Oil-burning water heaters. GEAKE, W. H. G., Aladdin Building, Long Drive, Greenford, Middlesex. Oct. 26, 1933, No. 29738. [Class 75 (i).] A tubular water heater 12 is provided with an oil burner comprising an annular trough, or troughs, 20 supported within the lower end of the flue 11<a> in the path of the induced air stream so that vaporized fuel will be drawn upwardly by the air, mixed therewith and distributed in the combustion zone. Suitable dimensions of the trough and flue are given which produce a state of turbulence in the air stream above the trough. The trough contains a wick 30 and a double ring 31 having upwardly-projecting metal tongues 32 for conducting heat downwardly to the trough to vaporize liquid fuel maintained at a constant level therein as by a bird-fountain feed from a tank 25. An annular trough 34 collects fuel condensed after the burner has been extinguished. A pilot wick may extend from the oil cup 23 above the main wick to provide a temporary pilot light. Slightly helical, or straight, water circulating pipes 14, or 18, may be provided. Specification 409,220 is referred to.
