Abstract

718,667. Vapour burners, MANNING, W. O. Aug. 26. 1953, [Sept. 15, 1952.] No. 23138/52. Class 75 (1). A portable heater or lamp comprises a fuel container 14 heated by a flame 15 to vaporize the fuel therein for supply to a burner 22 and a cylindrical surrounding member 16 servas a wind shield for the flame 15 and as a support for the fuel container 14. The combined wind shield and support member 16 is arranged to conduct hot gases from the flame 15 over at least part of the side surfaces of the fuel container 14. A manually adjustable wick burner 11, a solid fuel tablet, or any other flame device may be used for the flame 15. The support member 16 rests on a support plate 13 having air ports 25 to the flame 15. The hot gases from the flame 15 pass through an annular passage 18 to heat the sides of the fuel container 14 and supply heated air to the main burner constituted by a Bunsen tube 22 and nozzle 21 screwed to the filling aperture of the container 14. A single fuel such as methylated spirits is normally used for both the wick burner 11 and the main burner 22. The shield 16 may be extended as shown in dotted lines to support cooking utensils. The burner 22 may be replaced by a flexible or other pipe extension provided with a burner at the end remote from the fuel container 14. An incandescent mantle may be fitted.
