428,022. Wick burners. LAMPENUND METALLWARENFABRIKEN R. DITMAR GEB. BRUNNER AKT.-GES., Erste Heidequerstrasse, Vienna. Nov. 14, 1934, No. 32814. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1933. [Class 75 (i)] In a wick burner of the type in which the wick 1 burns with a blue flame between two perforated cylinders 4, 5 the flame is regulated by regulating the primary air entering the chamber surrounding the wick. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 an adjustable screw 14 regulates the air passing through a pipe 12 into an annular outer chamber 9 which surrounds the wick chamber 2 and communicates with the wick chamber through an annular slot or a series of apertures 11. A small hole 16 in the pipe 12 allows sufficient air to pass to maintain an igniting flame at the wick when the screw 14 is in the closed position. Vapour condensing in the chamber 9 is returned to the chamber 2 through apertures 11<1>. An additional annular chamber may be provided supplying air to the wick chamber from the inside. In the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the air entering apertures 23 in the pipe 12 is regulated by rotating an apertured cap 21 and the wick is surrounded by annular sleeves 17, 18. When the cap is in the closed position an aperture 24 in the cap registers with one aperture 23 and allows air to pass to the igniting flame. By moving the cap axially the aperture 24 can be closed. The sleeves 17, 18 may be attached to the sleeves 4, 5 so that they may be removed together when the wick is to be ignited. In another construction the air entering the pipe 12 is regulated by a cap operated by a thermostat responsive to the temperature of the water in a vessel heated by the burner or by a diaphragm operated by the water pressure. In the constructions shown fuel is maintained at a constant level in the wick chamber 2 but the wicks may be adjustable in a fuel container situated below the burner.
