Abstract

465,853. Liquid-fuel burners. EHRICHT, J., and WAILES, A. W. June 30, 1936, No. 18093. [Classes 75 (i) and 75 (iii)] A water heater comprising a cylindrical water jacket 10 formed with inwardly projecting fins 34 is heated by an oil burner 18 mounted on a shoulder 17 on a tapered air inlet member 16 which is secured to or is integral with the apertured base plate 12 of -the water heater. The burner consists of an annular trough 19 containing a circular wick or wicks 20 and carrying a perforated frustoconical wall 21 which supports a dished plate 22 adapted to assist in vaporizing the oil. Fuel is supplied to the trough 19 from a reservoir 14 through a pipe 24, shut-off valve 41, a chamber 26, a pipe 29 and a distributing pipe 30. The chamber 26 is provided at the top with air inlet orifices and is connected to the top of the reservoir 14 by a pipe 28. Ignition may be effected by means of a wick pan 32 which is charged with fuel by means of a valve nozzle 39 connected to the fuel pipe 24 and is mounted on an arm 33 adapted to be swung beneath the air inlet member 16. Alternatively, a plug carrying a tube containing an igniting wick may be secured in an aperture in the base of the jacket 10. A deflector may be arranged below the trough 16 to divert the air entering through perforations in the member 16, and the plate 22 may be water-jacketed.
