Abstract

361,913. Oil tankers. WILSON, H. A., 70, Vineyard Hill Road, Wimbledon Park, and ANGLO-AMERICAN OIL CO., Ltd., 36, Queen Anne's Gate, both in London. Aug. 20, 1930, No. 24932. [Class 113 (ii).] Oil tankers are provided with an installation for maintaining the tanks at substantial atmospheric c pressure and for carrying off the products of vaporization so that the products from tanks containing one grade of oil are prevented from access to tanks containing another grade of oil. Vacuum within the tanks is also relieved. Manifolds 12 from the individual tanks are connected up to casings 11 which 'are also in communication with a common relief pipe 8 leading to an exhaust pipe 8a running up the mast. An airinlet pipe is also connected up to a common inlet pipe 9 on the opposite side of the casings 11. The pipes 8, 9 in the casings 11 are separated by the partitions 14, 14a, the former having apertures 18, 19 controlled by the poppet valves 20, 21. Vapours from the individual tanks have therefore, on the pressure exceeding a predetermined amount, access to the relief pipe 8 but their return is prevented. Similarly air has access to the manifold 12 past the valve 21.
