Abstract

189,096. Rateau, A. Nov. 12, 1921, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors. -In aircraft engines wherein a p u m p draws fuel from a main or auxiliary reservoir and dipscharges it into the float chamber of the carburettor to which air is fed under pressure, the reservoir at low altitudes is in communication with the atmosphere but at high altitudes is placed, by a manometric device, in communication with the pressure-air passage so as to be subject to a fraction of the pressure therein. A pump A draws fuel from a reservoir B or from a small auxiliary tank and delivers it to the float chamber C of the carburettor open to the passage D to which air is supplied under pressure. The passage D communicates through a pipe E with a cylinder containing a valve F actuated through a rod J by a manometric box I in a chamber H. The valve is loaded by a spring K adjustable by a cap L provided with an aperture M. A pipe G connects the cylinder and chamber H, and a pipe E' the chamber H and reservoir B. At low altitudes, or when the atmospheric pressure exceeds that in the box I, the valve F is lowered and the reservoir B placed in communication with the atmosphere. As the altitude increases and the atmospheric pressure decreases, the valve F is raised and some of the pressure in the pipe D is transmitted to the reservoir B, which, being subject always to only a small pressure, may be made of thin metal.
