Abstract

272,863. Renault, L. June 16, 1926, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-The supply pf combustible mixture to an aircraft engine from carburettors 2, 2' is automatically regulated by a barometric device 15 controlling a piston 8, which is connected to the throttles 5, 5<1> and works in a cylinder connected by a valve-controlled passage to the induction pipe 3. The apparatus may be arranged to control the admission of different fuels, for example so that the engine is run on benzol or alcohol at lower altitudes, and on petrol at higher altitudes. The device 15 is fitted with a diaphragm 14 acted on by a spring 16 and connected to a valve 12, so that this valve is opened at high altitudes to subject the piston 8 to the vacuum existing in the induction pipe 3, thereby fully opening the throttles 5, 5<1>. In a modification, the diaphragm 14 is acted on at one side by atmospheric pressure at ground level, and on the other side by the vacuum in the induction pipe.
