[Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (vi).] In an aircraft engine having a relay device controlled by the pressure in the induction pipe for automatically adjusting the throttle valve to prevent excessive cylinder pressures at low levels, means whereby the pilot may, by exerting sufficient force, overcome the action of the relav device comprises a lever having one arm g<1> connected to the pilot's hand control f, another arm g<2> contacting with the rod el of the relay piston e, and a third arm g<3> connected to the throttle valve g<7>. The relay piston e is controlled by a valve b<4> connected to an aneroid chamber b<1> arranged in a casing b connected at a<3> to the blower outlet a<2>. The valve admits the pressure from the blower outlet to one side of the piston e, and the pressure at the blower inlet a<1> to the opposite side, according to the change of altitude. As the aircraft descends, the piston e is moved to the right, so that the rod e<1> actuates the arm g<2> to close the throttle, but the pilot can overcome this action from the control f when necessary.
