Abstract
537,026. Fluid-pressure servomotor controlsystems. C.A.V. Ltd., and EVANS, F. M. Dec. 4, 1939, No. 31386. [Class 135.] Relates to means for automatically controlling the throttle valve in the induction pipe of an internal-combustion engine for aircraft by an aneroid device, whereby the engine may be allowed to develop its maximum safe pressure at all altitudes up to the "full-throttle"altitude, whilst at the same time making it impossible for the pilot to obtain a value of induction pressure that would endanger the engine. An arm a on the throttle b is connected by a toggle c to one end of a bell-crank d which is also connected by a link e to the pilot's lever f. The other end of the bell-crank is connected to a datum-varying device. The junction of the toggle links c is connected by a link g to the rod h of a servomotor piston i working in a cylinder j having inlet and exhaust passages m, n, controlled by a valve o. The aneroid device comprises an elastic metal bellows p mounted within a chamber on a flexible diaphragm s which divides the chamber into compartments r, r<SP>1</SP> of which r is in connection at u with the induction pipe and r<SP>1</SP> at y with the exhaust or with atmosphere, the diaphragm s being thus subjected to the difference of these pressures. The diaphragm is loaded on each side by a suitable rated spring t, and the bellows p is supported by stems v working in guides w. A lever z has pin-and-slot connection with valve o and stem v is also pivoted to sliding part 2 urged upwardly by a spring 3 and adapted to be moved to vary the datum by a cam 4, an arm 5 on which is connected by a link 6 to the bell-crank lever d.
