Abstract

453,766. Regulating. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Ex-cell-o Aircraft & Tool Corporation; 1200, Oakman Boulevard, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) Jan. 12, 1935, No. 1146. [Class 7 (vi)] In an engine having means for varying the fuel supply in accordance with the amount of air supplied, moans are also provided for correcting the ratio of fuel and air in accordance with atmospheric pressure or temperature, or both. Fig. 1 shows a piston 148 operating in a cylinder 141 connected at 145 to the air-inlet manifold, the piston being further acted on by a spring 150 and connected by a rod 140 to the control arm 139 of the fuel pump 137, which may be constructed as described in Specification 420,202, [Group XXVIII]. The compensation for atmospheric pressure and temperature is obtained by means of a bellows 151 interposed between the piston 148 and rod 140, the rod 140 being passed at 155 through the wall of the piston and connected to the bellows. The bellows is filled with air or gas, which responds to the temperature and also to the pressure of the atmosphere, which is admitted to the hollow piston 148 through ports 147, 154. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the compensation for atmospheric conditions is varied according to the pressure in the air manifold. The bellows 177 responding to atmospheric changes is connected by a link 180 to a swivelling guide 171 containing a slide 170 connected by a link 167 to a piston 165 subject to air manifold pressure admitted at 159. The slide 170 is further connected by a link 168 to the fuelcontrol rod 140.
