487,856. Two-stroke engines; regulating. CHABAY, M. R. A. Sept. 22, 1936, No. 25737. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1935. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] In engines for aircraft having the scavenging and supercharging air supplied from the same compressor, means are provided for differentially regulating the proportion of air which is used for the two functions, so that the amount used for scavenging is reduced as the altitude increases, and the amount used for supercharging is correspondingly increased. Fig. 1 shows a compressor 2 supplying compressed air to a reservoir 5 which communicates by a valve 14 with a second reservoir 10 supplying air for scavenging through a valve 11, the air in the reservoir 5 being supplied through the carburetter 8 and valve 7 for supercharging. The valve 14 is so loaded that the correct proportion of air passes into the reservoir 10 according to the altitude ; or the valve 14 may be actuated by gear adjustable by hand or by an aneroid so as to give the desired regulation. Fig. 2 shows a cam 19 for actuating the valve through a rod 16, the cam being adjusted axially by a rod 23 connected by a double roller bearing 22. The valve 14 may form the scavenging valve on the cylinder.
