Abstract

482,596. Regulating ; spray carburetters. AERO ENGINES, Ltd., and HALLIDAY, G. F. Oct. 5, 1936, No. 26993. [Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (vi)] In supercharged aircraft and like engines, the anti-detonating properties of the fuel are controlled in accordance with the supercharger pressure, or with indirect effects thereof, such as the temperature or composition of the exhaust or the cylinder temperature, and this control of the fuel is interconnected with the pitch control of the airscrew, and with means for varying the datum of the altitude boost control. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to an engine 1 having a carburetter 6 and supercharger 5, the fuel being supplied by a pump 16 connected to reservoirs 22A and 23A containing the main fuel and the anti-detonating liquid or fuel respectively. The proportions of liquid supplied from these reservoirs to the pump are varied by a valve device 17, the rod 21 of which is connected mechanically or hydraulically as at 25, 26 to the airscrew control 4, and also to the lever 13 for varying the datum of the boost control 7, which adjusts the throttle control by means of the usual connection 8 to a toggle linkage 9.
