Abstract

537,027. High-pressure servomotor systems. C.A.V., Ltd., and EVANS, F. M. Dec. 4, 1939, No. 31387. [Class 135] In controlling means for aircraft internalcombustion engines of the supercharged or high compression types, in which an aneroid mechanism acts on a servomotor for actuating the throttle valve of the engine induction system, and in which the pilot's lever which can actuate the throttle valve can also vary the setting of the aneroid mechanism, means is provided whereby the output of the fuel injection pump is varied according to the setting of the aneroid mechanism. As shown, a bellows p in a chamber r connected to the induction pipe x operates the valve o of a servomotor through a lever z. The piston i of the servomotor is connected to the throttle valve b through rod and links h, g, c, a. The chamber r is separated from a chamber r<SP>1</SP> by a diaphragm s carrying the bellows p and the chamber r<SP>1</SP> is open to the atmosphere or is connected to the engine exhaust pipe. The pilot's lever f acts on the throttle valve b through links e, c, a, and also on a movable post 2 to which the link z is pivoted through links d, 6, 5 and cam 4. The above subject-matter is described in Specification 537,026. According to the present invention the lever 5 has a second cam 7, and this cam acts on a bell-crank lever 8 and link 9 to move the control rod 10 of the fuel injection pump 11. Thus, movement of the pilot's lever f to increase the opening of the throttle valve b will increase the supply of fuel and vice versa.
