Abstract

406,812. Regulating ; spray carburetters. MORRIS INDUSTRIES, Ltd-., Cowley, Oxford, and DAVEY, B. A., East Works, Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, Birmingham. Nov. 8, 1932, No. 31504. [Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (vi).] In means for automatically regulating the fuel supply in accordance with atmospheric or induction-pipe pressure by a bellows device, the bellows is connected with the control mechanism through resilient means which, in the event of failure of the bellows, allow the spring within the bellows to move the control mechanism independently of said resilient means, so as to maintain the fuel supply. The bellows may be replaced by a light piston or a flexible diaphragm. Fig. 1 shows a bellows a containing a spring band arranged in a casing c open to the atmosphere or connected to the induction pipe, so as to actuate a lever d which is connected to another lever e pivoted to the control member h, relay piston g, and valve f. The connection between the levers d and e is made of telescoping members i, j held together by a spring l; or the two levers may be connected merely by a spring. If the bellows should fail, the spring b moves the lever d into contact with a lever or spring blade o, which operates the valve f so as to cause movement of the piston g in the appropriate direction for maintaining the flow of fuel. In a modification, the bellows acts directly through a system of levers and links connected to the needle valve regulating the supply of fuel to the carburetter.
