Abstract
1366313 I C engine inlet manifolds; regulating engines JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 23 Dec 1971 [1 Jan 1971] 142/71 Heading F1B The inlet manifold 10 comprises a plenum chamber 62 with an inlet 64 containing a throttle valve 66 and outlets 68 connected to respective ram pipes 60 containing respective valves 70. The valves 70 substantially block the pipes 60 until the engine approaches full load operation, e.g. 90% full load, when the valves open the pipes and substantially block the outlets 68. The valves 66 and 70 may be connected by a linkage 72 or the valves 70 may be operated in response to a predetermined manifold pressure. The upstream ends of the pipes 60 may be connected to a plenum chamber in parallel with the chamber 62 the chambers having a common inlet. Fuel may be supplied to the manifold by injectors 26 operating as described in Specifications 1107989, 1064679 and 1038541 or the manifold may be used with one or more carburetters.
