Abstract

349,465. Road surface boxes. WATTS, P. M., Catherine Street Foundry, Macclesfield, Cheshire. Feb. 25, 1930, No. 6154. [Class 107.] The frame of a rectangular manhole, gully grid, or the like, has corner pieces on which the cover or grid rests and is provided with parallel-sided ribs or projections which enter gaps in the walls of the cover, the projections and gaps being so arranged that the cover can be inserted only in one position. The projections d, Fig. 1, of a frame a are arranged at different distances from the respective corners and are adapted to enter corresponding recesses b2 in the cover b, as shown in sectional elevation in Fig. 4. The corners of the frame have bosses which form horizontal seatings c for complemental seatings b<3> of the cover. The seatings may be formed of hard steel plates f, b<4>, which may be cast in the frame or cover respectively or may be riveted thereto. Alternatively, the seatings may be of metal-reinforced balata. The cover is provided with recesses e which receive a lever or the like for raising purposes.
