Abstract
404,023. Gully covers. BROAD & CO., Ltd., and HARRIS, D. G., 4, South Wharf, Paddington, London. July 7, 1932, No. 19268. [Class 107.] Relates to gully covers for road drainage, of the kind comprising a cast frame let into a kerb, and having an open side which is flush with the vertical face of the kerb. According to the invention, a cross-bar or foot 25 for the front of the frame is adjustably secured to the side walls 12, 13, thereof, whereby the gully cover can be adapted to suit kerbs of varying heights. In the form shown, the foot 25 has upstanding end lugs 26 which are slotted at 27 to receive bolts 28 which extend into the side walls. Recesses 29, 30 are formed in the side walls to accommodate the foot when in the fully raised position. A lid 17 is hinged to the frame by a cross-bar 20, and to the lid is hinged a grating comprising a pair of downwardly extending members 24 spanned by horizontal bars 23. When the lid is closed, the grating is positioned between pairs of strengthening ribs 15, 16, formed integrally with the side walls. In a modification, the side walls are formed with slots and the lugs 26 with apertures, and in a further modification slots are provided in the walls and lugs, a nut being provided on the bolt to lock the foot in the required position of adjustment.
