Abstract

452,869. Gully covers; reflectors. NEEDHAM, W., Millgate Foundry, Millgate, Stockport. March 5, 1935, No. 6837. [Class 107] [See also Group XVIII] Cast metal vertical gully gratings, Fig. 2, kerb outlets, Fig. 6, and like devices for draining surface water from roads are provided with reflectors d to define their positions at night or in fog. As applied to the gully grating the reflectors may be placed in the side walls g<2> of the gully frame g or, according to a modification, upon vertical bars of the grating. The surfaces upon which the reflectors are mounted are inclined in such manner as to face the lights of oncoming traffic. In the case of kerb outlets the reflectors are mounted upon the inclined faces a<1> of a cast iron unit which is let into the kerb e. The unit is formed with a fixed cover and with an outlet c which may have a spigot for connection with a drainage pipe. In a modification, the unit is provided with a hinged lid and in another modification the unit has an inclined front wall with a projecting arched portion which overhangs and protects the reflectors.
