Abstract

435,872. Gully grates. BROAD & CO., Ltd., HARRIS, D. G., and NAYLOR, F., 4, South Wharf, Paddington, London. April 6, 1934, No. 10460. [Class 107] A rectangular gully cover 10 is in part constituted by a movable member 25 which rests in the main body of the cover upon a three-point support. The cover is slotted or otherwise perforated over substantially its whole area and is flanged externally for setting into a road. In the construction shown, the cover has a flange 11 extending along three sides, and is adapted to be positioned with the remaining side 13 adjacent to the kerb. The cover has a triangular recess 15 for receiving the member 25, the walls 16 of the recess being of somewhat greater depth than the grating bars 18-21. The member 25 is loosely hinged within the cover about a bolt 27, the arrangement being such that the member, in its closed position, rests upon three supports 22, 23, 24, provided at the corners of the recess 15. The movable member, the fixed part of the cover, or both, may be so shaped as to provide a wide clearance between them, and, as shown in Fig. 3, the depth of the movable member may increase towards that corner remote from its pivotal edge.
