414,155. Manhole frames and covers. HENLEY'S TELEGRAPH WORKS CO., Ltd., W. T., 11, Holborn Viaduct, London, and BREEZE, H. W., Kingswood, Upper Wrotham Road, Gravesend. Feb. 11, 1933, No. 4238. [Class 107.] A rectangular manhole cover 4, resting on an inwardly-projecting flange of the frame 1, has shaped peripheral walls comprising upper and lower substantially vertical portions and an intermediate portion lying at a large angle to the vertical. A small clearance is provided between the cover and the correspondinglyshaped wall of the frame, so that the cover may be removed by sliding it laterally when one edge thereof is slightly raised. In the construction shown, the cover rests on an upstanding lip 3 of an inwardly-projecting portion of the frame. Corner strips 14 may be fitted to the lip to prevent the cover from rocking. The outer edge of the lip or, as shown, the adjacent portion 20 of the cover, may be chamfered to facilitate the lateral removal of the cover. Locating lugs 24 and recesses 23 are formed on the frame and cover respectively, the walls 26, 25, thereof being arranged at different inclinations to provide a wedge-shaped opening for the reception of the end of a pinch-bar. The cover consists of a skeleton framework formed by walls 15 and cross-bars 16 with a concrete or other filling. Key-hole slots 21 opening into pockets 22 are provided at each end of the cover to accommodate the usual lifting keys.
