Abstract
381,300. Manhole frames and covers. BOSTEL, E. and BOSTELS, Ltd., 71, Ebury Street, Buckingham Palace Road, London. Sept. 4, 1931, No. 24914. [Class 107.] The frame of a manhole cover is provided with one or more lugs 8 which, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, project outwardly and are each bound on four sides by ribs 4a, 4b upstanding from the base of the frame so as to form a recess 9 which is partly covered by a lug 7 projecting outwardly from the cover and is adapted to receive the end of a coverlifting tool. The ribs 4a, 4b form part of a continuous rib 4 extending around the frame, one rib 4b being cut away so that the lug 7 on the cover may rest upon the upper part of such rib. The cover is also adapted to be supported on an inner rib 2 on the frame. A rib 10 on the underside of the cover is adapted to fit in the groove 5 between the ribs 2, 4 on the cover, and any suitable sealing composition may be provided in the groove 5 and also in the recesses 9. In a modification the lugs 12, Fig. 4, on the frame are inwardly directed and the cover is provided with an inwardlyextending recess 14 which, when the cover is in position, is adapted to leave an opening for the reception of the tool. The cover is secured in position by bolts or turnbuckles fitted to the parts which overhang the recessed lugs.
