Abstract
358,523. Manhole frames and covers. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., Deptford, London, and WELLS, A., Hay Tor, Daines Close, Thorpe Bay, Essex. July 9, 1930, No. 20812. [Class 107.] A manhole frame is provided with an inner wall 3 and a somewhat higher concentric outer wall 4 so as to form an annular channel 5 which is provided with a plurality of radial webs or projections 7 and is normally filled with sand, the arrangement being that a depending flange 9 on the cover 8 is adapted to seat either on the sand filling or on the webs or projections. Alternate webs may be slightly higher than the other webs. The cover is strengthened by four radial ribs 10 on its undersurface, and notches 11 are provided in the upper edge of the inner wall 3 to accommodate such ribs. The outer wall 4 of the frame is strengthened by external ribs 6.
