Manhole covers.-The frame B of a surface coal plate is recessed into the surrounding pavement and secured by cement P and screws R, the frame having a vertical rib E which is overlapped by a rib G on the underside of the cover A to exclude surface water. To provide a drain for the water, the part of the cover which rests on the frame is provided on three sides with a continuous groove H opening into a recess J on the fourth side, which has transverse outlets K.
