Abstract
243,956. Braithwaite &. Co. Engineers, Ltd., and Humphrys, J. H. March 20, 1925. Well-sinking.-A well curb or monolith shoe for use in sinking foundations has each section of the wall formed of steel plates c, d, Figs. 2 and 3, one of which is curved round at its lower end to form a stiff cutting edge e, the curved part being riveted &c. to the other plate. In a modification, Fig. 6, a separate curved plate t forms the cutting edge and is secured to the plates c, d by staggered rivets u. In an outer wall, Figs. 2 and 6, one of the plates c, d is vertical; in a transverse wall, Fig. 3, both plates c, d are inclined to the vertical. Spaced diaphragms g have flanges h for connection to the plates c, d, the flanges preferably being oppositely directed; a top flange j is also provided for connection to inward flanges on the plates c, d. The diaphragms are apertured to provide a key for the concrete filling. Brick or concretefilled metal walls are built on the curb &c. and may be connected thereto as by tie-bars.
